Let me tell you a distressing tale about WBC and one of their protests. Seem some clumsy, clumsy person accidentally dropped four quarts of ammonia up wind from where they were chanting. The really sad thing was the caps on the bottles had somehow become very loose and the liquid spilled out, much to the dismay of the lovely chap carrying it home to help his poor old mother clean house. The cloud of noxious fumes resulting from the spill absolutely ruined the day for everybody.

It was, all in all, quite a sorrowful day for WBC and those who came to cheer them on.

Accidents will happen.

Now THAT'S offensive Void and a false analogy. To me,there is a HUGE moral difference between raping a child and decking an adult who is being deliberately provocative.I concede both acts are wrong.

This is one of those threads where nearly everyone has a somewhat valid point.

I finally decided I'm going to go with morality instead of legality on this one.
There is legal right and wrong and there is moral right and wrong.

Legally, the WBC had the right to protest, and thus those that prohibited that action were wrong.
Morally, the WBC is wrong for using a time of great sorrow to make money. They pretend that this has something to do with their religion and that they are protesting the acts of soldiers on a foreign battlefield. (which is ironic since their god is the great endorser of killing on a battlefield) They are taking advantage of the American justice system and intentionally hurting people to make easy money. To take advantage of someone's sorrow, especially over the death of someone they loved the most in this world, is morally reprehensible.

Therefore, I feel that their moral wrong outweighs those in the legal wrong and I fully support the actions of the local community.

I'm not an expert on U.S law, but if they picketed a black funeral holding up signs that proclaimed

"God hates niggers"

What would the legal standing be?

And would that still be "freedom of speech"?

Sadly, it probably would. and I of course would again choose the morality side of right and wrong.

Yes and if they got the shit kicked out of them, as a judge I'd throw out any lawsuits on the grounds of provocation.
