Muslim ban on Pokemon Go
https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/egy...okemon-go/

Quote: Abbas Shouman, the Deputy Chief of the Al-Azhar Islamic School, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) during an interview on Thursday that the mobile phone game “Pokemon Go” is prohibited by Islamic law.

Shouman claimed playing the game is equivalent to drinking alcohol, which is also forbidden by Islam.

“It negatively influences the mind and harms the player or others without being aware of that,” Shouman told the DPA on Thursday.

Al-Azhar School is considered one of the most prestigious scholastic facilities for Islamic studies in Egypt; it is also located near the historical Al-Azhar Mosque.
The Deputy Chief of this school said that playing this game is a sin, citing its obsessive nature as the primary reason for its ban.
Pokemon Go is not yet available in Egypt.

Well, at least they did something right even if their reasoning for banning it is skewed.

Wow, I can't wait till I get to that bit in the Quran with Hugo and Jake. Imagine God trying to get peoples' attention with everyone fiddling on their phones.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if the next revealed religion -came- from our phones. The market is there.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

So Islamic law forbids anything that "negatively influences the mind and harms the [individual] or others without being aware of that"?

That's Islam fucked then.

Muslim ban. Such a grand word for such a small matter, since it's only one head of one religious school.

Btw, just this morning I read some story about a pastor warning against online demons from pokemon Go. Was good for a chuckle. Didn't bookmark it or something. So it's obviously a christian ban also, isn't it?

Yes, it is. Feel free to create a thread for it.

Nintendo suddenly making billions and people wandering into traffic and getting splattered is the kinda thing that needs a little reining in.

(NOT endorsing Islam, love that ruling since it also seems to say Islamic Law therefore prohibits Islam as it is also a negative influence on the mind and harms far more individuals than pokemon . . . )
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Are there any instances of people getting hit by traffic though?

No Stimbo, here's your quote in the correct form:

Quote:So (Al Azhar/Sunni/Shiite/Wahhabi/Salafi/...etc) law forbids anything that "negatively influences the mind and harms the [individual] or others without being aware of that"?
