He looks like M C Hammer.

That's ok though. At least he's not out doing drugs or robbing liquor stores

Underwear is supposed to go under.
Pants are to go up to the waist.
Letting them halfway down your legs is, at least, uncomfortable...at most, forces an awkward walk which  can affect your physiology and have repercussions on the way  you walk (or not) years later...

It sounds like a weak sauce excuse for forcing a kid to conform to your dressing style.

Hey they're your kids not mine. Just tossing in my opinion.

And if he's ever forced to defend himself, he'll have a hell of a time doing so with his stupid pants around his ankles.

I hate the look and always have. That said, I agree with Losty that dressing ridiculous is a fairly harmless way for kids to express themselves. I practically blush to remember my own 'self-expression' -- questionable and tacky even by '80s standards.  Undecided

Tell him what that really means. Oh, and tell him that no self respecting girl likes that look on a guy.

It's not the style that's the problem...it's the incorrect wearing of a particular item of clothing.
If that item is meant to be worn like that...then alright.
But it's not and wearing it like that can have repercussions...damn, I'm old...i was about to talk about joint pain and stuff like that... Tongue

Every time you see him like that.

Why? Dressing ridiculous is one of the most harmless ways to let your kid express themselves.

I agree to an extent. What that "look" conveys in reality started in prisons. It was a sign to other males that the person wearing their pants like that was available for sex. And honestly, it looks trashy and personally, I don't need to see some guy's underwear or damn near all their ass hanging out of their pants.

Dressing to reflect one's style or personality is one thing. Looking lazy and dressing like trash is another. That can be viewed as a reflection of one's parents, in some instances.

You have the freedom to wear whatever you bloody well want, but don't be surprised if everyone else around you thinks you look like a total cunt.

Lol like I said, weak sauce.

I hate the style too, but I just don't see any benefit of taking away the small freedoms that teens have even if it means the freedom to dress like a turd lol

I agree with Losty. If he's old enough, let him suffer the social consequences for how he dresses. Let him figure it out himself, no need to be an authoritative parent. But if he's merely a child, taking a different approach might be instructive. It depends on how old he is.

That is not how it started. It became a normal prison style because prisoners were sometimes given outfits that were too big and they're not allowed belts.

Even if it were true, the last thing thing I would do to my son is disparage a dress style because of its association with homosexuality. If my son one day decides that he is available for gay sex I don't want him to be ashamed or to think that I would look down on him for it.
