It's more a reflect on the truly sad state of cultural development 300 years into the age of enlightenment that verbalizing so utterly trivial a fact should make news.

Yes, you should read the comments at the bottom of the Yahoo! article. While there are some good points being made, I'm still firmly convinced that Yahoo! comments are a haven for the most moronic idiots on the internet, far worse than Youtube video comments.
What's particularly ironic are all the idiots calling Hawking a moron! Oh, let me see, who has contributed more to scientific theories and discovery? If you and Hawking contributed competing scientific papers to be peer reviewed, which one would they be more likely to accept?

I was just reading about this on Yahoo and checked through the comments. Most people said something similar to what Rayaan said. It's funny how they will cling to their ancient texts but when someone living and very real who is infinitely more intelligent and educated than they are makes a claim they can dismiss it without giving it a second thought. That God of theirs sure works in mysterious ways.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Amazing how most of those fucktards suddenly can grasp logical fallacies like appeal from authority to deal with something they don't like, and yet conveniently forget how it also applies to them and their sky wizard.

Don't get me wrong ... I like Stephen Hawking, too, for his brilliance in scientific thinking and being able to solve long and difficult equations in his head while the rest of his body is paralyzed. I think he's an interesting guy. And he's been through some hard times with his medical conditions. However, I just don't think that a scientist can rationally apply all these scientific knowledge about the universe in a way as to negate spiritual aspects of our existence such as the concept of an afterlife and the existence of God. But of course, I can't prove that he's wrong either.
