NZ major earthquake
November 13, 2016 at 11:21 am
Hoping our own resident surgeon and others are doing OK down there. There was a massive earthquake overnight US time somewhere in northeastern Canterbury (according to a map that didn't demarcate regions). According to Twitter, it is a 7.5 quake. According to Radio NZ, the city of Dunedin (in Otago) is under a state of emergency.

Yeah, it was a big 'un - 1600km away and it rattled our dishes.

We're in the Northland, big quakes almost never get this far. That being said, we get minor tremors on a fairly constant basis. Just one of the perks of living here.

Glad it was far away from you, man.

Geshundiet.
But it looks like the tsunami also will be largely confined to South Island and the extreme southern part of North Island. If it happens, people on either side of the Straits are liable to get the worst of things. Still and all, herself and I may decide to evacuate.

I think Beccs (AKA The Valkyrie) was off on a trip recently but rather worrying that she hasn't been around since before the quake. Have you seen some of the destruction caused by the quake. Yikes. (And I live on the same Pacific Rim and am pretty relaxed about quakes by and large. But 7.8? Holy cow!)

Sorry, folks. No major drama for me. Just been busy.
Only damage for me was panicked cats and a few items fallen off the shelf.
