WoW vs Teach

WoW vs Teach
So I shouted a joke about changing my priest toon's name to "Badtouch."

Giff said WoW is a waste of life.

I asked what is not a waste of life.

Demonaura said teach.

But what if someone is teaching religion? Wouldn't it be better to play WoW?

But, seriously, anyone you teach is going to die, along with all of their descendants, and everyone who will ever live. We will never colonize space. The next ice age is scheduled to hit any day now. Those little 10,000 year windows of warmth and growth between ice ages will never yield sufficient opportunity for us to escape to the stars. The sun will eventually become a red giant and boil all our wee dreams into dust. So what is the point in anything? What can one do with one's life that is the least bit meaningful, you know, in the long run?

Have you tried Xanax? Wink

Given the state of our technological and scientific progress in a few hundred years, I am not as pessimistic about being able to travel further away or colonizing somewhere else. However it is not that one generation will be able to travel to another place and set up shop, it will take several generations on the move to get there.

I grant you I am not keen on online gaming because I can't see the point in "killing" strangers (I'd rather "kill" my friends, LOL) but as far as I'm concerned Giff's comments are personal not factual i.e. what floats his boat is not necessarily what floats yours (and I say that as someone who has spent much of the past 3 weeks trying to kill Jedi's and Imperial Stormtroopers on my xBox with every intent of doing more in).

Personally I think education has value, more value than console or PC gaming but that is just my opinion and, let's be honest here, opinions are like assholes ... everyone has one Confusedhock:

From my POV education results in a more aware population, a more savvy population, a more technically competent population and that is (hopefully) good for you, me and everyone else ... with education perhaps our race has a chance yet.

But as to online gaming, do your thing mate ... there's nowt wrong with a little fantasy madness and mayhem IMO.

The views counter lags behind. I noticed that behavior before as well.

But they offer such invaluable tips for real life, like "If you then kill the hooker you get your money back". Cool Shades

Well indeed ... do you know what I most upset about in "The Force Unleashed"? No civilians!

I mean yes, yes, it's all very well picking up Strormtropers and throwing them off cliffs, smacking them into walls and dangling them in lasers, all very entertaining and so on but where's the civilians? There was me all gone darkside 'n all and there were no innocent people to kill and let's be brutal about this ... as Eddie Izzard says even the Deathstar has to have a canteen and a canteen has ordinary staff in it. It just isn't satisfying enough slicing up innocent R2 units.

For good reason too. On larger boards, updating the views every single time a page is viewed makes the site slower as there are a large amount of queries being sent to the database, all changing the same thing. Now every 10 minutes or so a task runs to update the correct amounts Big Grin

WoW is a overrated mmporg. There are better ones, people just like it becuase it's been hyped by gaming sites, that it's warcraft and because it's popular, which it is because of the two first reasons.

But it's a matter of taste and a desire to become socially isolated.

I like WoW because it's fantasy oriented (I've tried sci-fi MMORPGs, but never liked any enough to go beyond a trial period), there's a good back-story and mythos, I liked the previous games and I have friends who play.
And obviously because it's fun to play!

Giff, I'd hardly describe myself as socially isolated.

Ever give EvE Online a try? It encourages killing innocents, scamming others, taking that which belongs to others, etc.
Has very in-depth backstories and RP if you're into that sorta thing.

If you're a gamer, give the trial a try. If you do, look up the character "Dotard" and I'll be happy to assist you in whatever path you choose.

(Note: There are no "paths" layed out by the game for you to choose from really, I meant whatever direction you take your character on. The game is basicly a big sandbox.)

And yes, I am socially isolated. Undecided
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.
