I've never heard any atheist point to that as the reason that they don't believe, and it certainly has nothing to do with why I don;t believe. I've been an atheist, for example, for far longer than I've known of modern synth and before any god argument was ever presented to me.

That would be a non-sequitur, not an argument. See above. It's also not a strictly factual description of the evolutionary history which lead to us or many of our associated species. Again, we didn't "come here", at all. Further, selection can be and often is mindful, intelligent, meaningful, and purposeful. We call that sort of selection artificial selection when we breed livestock and crops, for example, and "dating" when we do it to each other. So, if those are your pet peeves with evolution, what really grinds your gears, take heart...you can have it all. No need to deny reality and invoke fairies in order to get them.
