Nightwish
Within Temptation
Epica
Amaranth
Delain

There are so many of those now, but Nightwish is one of the better ones. Their original singer Tarja Turunen was super operatic, the current one Floor Jansen could pull it off, but they chose not to use her classical style so far, and she's basically belting her way through the latest album ( the Dawkins one)

Yeah they all kind of blend together into a single entity, I was actually thinking of Lacuna Coil but I confused it with Nightwish.
I am John Cena's hip-hop album.

Ah, forgot Lacuna Coil! And Therion, they were cool back in the day, now I find them pretty lame

Ok, important question: Ozzy-era Sabbath or the Dio days?

I know this is like the highest metal blasphemy there is, but I can't fucken stand Dio, but I love Ozzy Sabbath.

Well, not liking super operatic metal is one example of music I don't like.

When it comes to music as a whole... it's the difference between contrived music like this:

And sublime music like this:

Both bands are comprised of incredibly skillful musicians.

The first is emotionally flat and the second is... really something special. That's the difference. In theory anyone can learn to play well on the surface... but feeling is something that can't be learned. Either you feel the music or you don't.

Seriously though, despite Ozzy time Sabbath being the 'classic' one, I absolutely love everything Dio did ever. And his skills are undeniable. Heaven and Hell ftw.

My metal collection isn't as exhaustive as many other genres (see my classical queue), but here are some of the ones in my collection:

* Black Sabbath's first six albums
* Metallica's pre-Black Album albums
* All of Led Zeppelin's, Tool's, and Disturbed's albums
* Judas Priest's greatest hits
* Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden
* Peace Sells But Who's Buying by Megadeth
* Reign in Blood by Slayer
* Burzum and Incubus , a couple albums
* Korn and Linkin Park's first albums (blah blah blah crawling in my skin blah blah blah)

I'm sure there are more, but I'm not up to cataloging the rest at the moment. I've just got to get this nosebleed contained soon.

Quite. Also the way in which 'metalness' is determined, more or less.
