As to your suspicions of others on the forum....not exactly a get out of jail free card in a conversation with me.  I;ve never donated to the site, but I was a UN peacekeeper who gave years of my life, a knee, a few pounds of -actual- flesh, and a functioning testicle to the cause.  Did I not give enough to satisfy you? Maybe that;s the problem, maybe you need to see this firsthand to get past the "hurr durr terrorist" kneejerk nonsense.  A little warzone voyeurism, I mean, if you want to talk about stuff that changes your mind.  Booby trapped piles of diapers, feral fucking children, bodies in the street..........people begging you for anything, everything, always.  Kids eating what looks like and probably is human shit. I've probably given more to the site than I have to refugees. I'll grant you that. After all, the funds for the site come off my credit card once a month or year, depending on how Tibs set it up. I mean, I also don't have any refugees near me to help because, well, none of them have made it past bureaucrats to my doorstep. I'll tell you what, though, if and when they do, I will give them as much as I give to anyone else around here in need.

I know a couple of people seeking asylum that I would welcome into my godamned home and break bread with - have a few thousand sq ft of unused space, it aint pretty but it's better than where they are, not just out of charity...I really miss them....they served with me, but they were denied. They'll probably end up dead, along with their entire family and anyone who ever looked at them kindly.

I guess, but I worry.  I get an email or a call every now and again, but then a few months go by and I start to imagine all the creative fucking ways that assholes abroad come up with to hurt people. I half expect the next youtube of someone getting beheaded with a turkey carver or whatever will be a recognizable face.

I give to 5 charitable organizations including a local one that all support refugees (not to mention my taxes)
