Why would a deity want/need to create a universe at all?

Keep in mind Void that you have to take the Xtian characteristics of perfection and omnipotence out of the equation as well.

None of it really matters to me though. As soon as someone makes a claim that they KNOW why God would do something or that they even know who he is, automatically gets stamped with a disregard policy from me. Theorizing is fine. I do it often, but making claims of truth is unacceptable to me.


Any answer I have for someone is going to be my own conjecture with an attached disclaimer that reminds them that I simply do not know.
I speak only for myself, not deists, when I say: In my opinion, belief in God IS illogical ........... doesn't change the fact that I choose to do so.
Foolish? Perhaps. Paradox? Definitely. Hypocritical? Slightly. Satisfying? Completely.

I would firstly propose to take 'deity' or 'God' out of the equation altogether; supposing ours to be a possibly created Universe, all we can know about its Creator is that it possessed whatever power, intellect, and rationality were required to set forth a Universe of precisely the attributes we see before us, no less (obviously) and more importantly no more than that. So the question really is, what might motivate an entity with the ability to create a Universe to exercise this ability?

Entity creates for a purpose > entity has a need. Purpose = need fulfilled.
Cosmos exists because it needed to exist

But did it need to exist prior to its existence? Or did something need it to exist (or to exist as it)?
