Really?? I didn't know that was still recently a thing. I have never seen or heard of anyone in my schools (2 Catholic, 1 public) ever being beaten. If they had, I'm pretty sure that teacher would have been fired at the very least.
But yeah, I think school beatings are much more a cultural thing than a religious thing.

'Recently' is in the eye of the beholder. It was in the Sixties and Seventies. I'm 55. I never attended Catholic School, but they were famous for it when I was a kid.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I always thought you were younger than that too for some reason. Then again 55 is the new 45 probably.

Catholic schools where I live still deliver a stiff kick in the ass on a regular basis. I used to be a regular late comer in my school and our school principle a sister in the convent always gave me punishment. Sometimes made me kneel down under the sun on the sand in front of the school haha. She is most known for her
"Why are you late?"
"..sister the public bus was lat.."
"shut up! I don't want any reasons. Tell me! Why were you late?!"
"sister the bus.."
"I don't want any reasons! Tell me! Why were you late?!!!!"
Then she brings her bamboo cane and have a good beating for being late without any reason. A regular old nut case. God I miss them.

My first primary school was officially Roman Catholic but I very much doubt the pupils were. In fact, I think the majority came from Protestant or non-practicing Protestant families including myself, which is something I found to be quite strange looking back on it.
No beatings or anything like that though.
