I think it's a legit motivation behind scientific movement.
Even the "are we alone" question is not quite atheistic.
Though I'm more than sure that cosmology had everything to do with religion. The Mayans gave a fine example.
No, you are a Muslim, and we also have Christians here too in this thread. But even someone pointing to Buddhist writings.
Now I posted several links a few posts ago, to DEMONSTRATE, that every religion worldwide points to science when they cant flat out quote their holy writings.
It isn't a "legit motivation" it is mistaking where that motivation is really coming from.
We can see curiosity in other life, even with dogs. Put a snack or ball in one hand behind your back, and play with them, they will move their heads trying to figure out where the food/toy is.
We can see other primates use sticks in some species, as tools to stick into termite hills to extract the termites they use for food. THAT is where our human species drive to figure out things comes from. EVOLUTION.
Humans mistake our ability to make discoveries as being handed down to us and again, every religion falsely assumes our scientific discoveries are a result of that club alone, and every religion likes to claim to be the patent holder of human discoveries.
Allah didn't give humans the power to invent. Yahweh did not give humans the power to invent. Buddha did not give humans the power to invent. Jesus did not give humans the power to invent. Yahweh did not give humans the power to invent. The Hindu creator God Brahama did not give humans the power to invent.
Our species learned to control fire long before any of our modern religions. Other species as well, learn, even if they don't have our bigger brains or complex language. If other species were not capable of learning you wouldn't be able to train a dog.
