Can someone tell me where in the 2nd amendment it says you can carry machine guns?

RE: Can someone tell me where in the 2nd amendment it says you can carry machine guns?
Thanks, KUSA, for the information on the term "well-regulated."

I had thought long ago that it did, indeed, mean well-controlled or something similar until I became better informed.

To all:

I think it bears acknowledging that the overwhelming majority of guns owned are never used in criminal activity or to kill a human being. While it is frightening to hear of mass killers who used a gun, the instances are rare. Much more common place are the killings done by those who illegally own a gun and who use them to commit crimes. But...since criminals by definition do not follow the law, any gun-control laws fail to work on them, unless they cause a bit of inconvenience.

The instances of gun-use for self defense don't make the news because usually nobody is killed and no crime gets committed, but they happen all the time.

We have witnessed historically and very recently what happens to nations when law-abiding citizens are deprived of the right to bear arms and we have learned of the desperate attempts of those so deprived to obtain the few fire-arms available to them.

Those of us who choose to exercise our 2nd amendment rights also know that a government bent on tyranny would be able to destroy us if they wanted to go that far, but would most likely consider such actions to be too risky.

Perhaps we should think of it like this; it is better to have nukes and never need them, then to need them and not have them. How would the history of our country in recent decades have been different if Germany developed the atomic bomb first? How would our current situation be different if Russia or China had the upper hand in military force and in nukes?

"If you want peace, prepare for war!" Original quote from Flavius Vegetius Renatus but often quoted by many.

That is the way to consider our 2nd amendment. Or not..if you choose to deny common sense and reality.

I fail to understand the knee-jerk reaction to viewpoints that differ from the Leftist/Progressive Agenda and nearly always reactions that come with personal insults. Does it make them feel better about themselves?

Only with subtle insults without vulgar language.

Quote:To place any dependence on the Militia, is, assuredly, resting upon a broken staff. Men just dragged from the tender Scenes of domestic life; unaccustomed to the din of Arms; totally unacquainted with every kind of military skill, which being followed by a want of confidence in themselves, when opposed to Troops regularly trained, disciplined, and appointed, superior in knowledge and superior in Arms, makes them timid, and ready to fly from their own shadows ... if I was called upon to declare upon Oath, whether the Militia have been most serviceable or hurtful upon the whole, I should subscribe to the latter.

General George Washington

That the "Minutemen" were a decisive factor in the Revolution is mere 'Murrican mythology.  When Washington assumed command of the "army" he was horrified at the conditions he found.

At Cowpens, Commander Daniel Morgan told his militia men "Boys, give me two shots and then you are free to fall back."  That meant the one they started the battle with and one reload.  Then they could run away.  [Usually they ran away before that!)

We 'murricans do so love our fantasies.

Machine guns? Sheesh, do they still make those? I want to know why I can't have nukes if N. Korea gets them? NOT FAIR! How to hell are we supposed to wash our government free of dictators like Trump without our own nukes?

Simple; it mentions people being allowed to carry arms, and since the NRA has A) an absolutist stance on what that means, B) a lot of money they can give to Congresspeople so they can vote their way, and C) No shame, this includes ALL THE GUNS.

It "mentions" a well-regulated militia, too..... but conservatards only see what they want to see.

P.S. - the rights that are not supposed to be "infringed" are infringed all the time and the supreme court is fine with it.

Quote:The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday left in place gun control laws in New York and Connecticut that ban military-style assault weapons like the one used in last week's massacre at an Orlando nightclub, rejecting a legal challenge by gun rights advocates.

The court's action underlined its reluctance to insert itself into the simmering national debate on gun control. The Supreme Court issued important rulings in gun cases in 2008 and 2010 but has not taken up a major firearms case since.

The justices declined to hear an appeal of an October ruling by the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld laws prohibiting semiautomatic weapons and large capacity magazines in the two northeastern states.
