You're new to all of this huh? Must be, you have such an elementary understanding of the subject.

I'll make this as simple as possible; If YOU are claiming that a God exists then it's up to YOU to provide us with a reason to believe you. We reject the existence of God because we do not find any of the arguments presented for his existence to be convincing and the standards of evidence raised in defence of the concept, such as personal experience, is of such a poor quality that it can yield innumerable contractions.

Now, can you please define God as you understand it, then tell us why we should believe that this thing exists?

There are many things i could say but that would require much typing which i don't quite feel doing. But what I will say is I think the evidence is all around you. Just look at how intricate and specific and perfectly in place everything in the world and universe is. If the planet was just a few miles closer to the sun it would be to hot and if we were a few miles farther it would be to cold for liquid water. And if the earth was just a little bit off its axis the earth couldn't support life. If certain mathematical equations of the universe were just slightly off the universe would collapse in on itself as soon as it was created or it would be completely off couldn't sustain stars or planets and therefore life. And then just look at the cell, which i believe is one of the strongest evidences. They used to call the cell the "simple cell" but in the last few years in science we've discovered just how perfectly intricate the cell is. Do your research on it. The cell is so perfectly specific and so extremely complex that some scientist are even saying that aliens seeded life here on earth. Now just think about that for a moment. That doing the same thing you claim I do and just throwing off the problem onto something else and begs the question "Well where did the aliens come from?". It just shocks me that such intelligent people would rather believe that aliens created us that God. The evidence is right there in front of them, they just don't want to admit it.

I'm going to clear the air right now. My distaste for the bible has NOTHING to do with science. It has to do with its faux philosophical musings and silly superstitions. It has to do with the contradictory nature of god and the ridiculous notion that a deity is watching over us at every moment. It has to do with the propagation of fear and the silly belief in an afterlife.

You are under a gross misconception that science is the religion for atheists and it is what we use to determine our religious beliefs. While many atheists do love science, it serves nothing more than a reminder as to why we're not religious in the first place.

You say things like God is contradictory and that its ridiculous that he's watching over us and that there is no afterlife but u bring forth no evidence or explain why your statement and explain why you believe so.

Did I miss the part where you offered up evidence for the existence of god? You'd be a popular man round the fundy table if you had any. The different variants of the cosmological argument are tired, give them a rest. Surely there must be some substance to the claim, after all, the evidence is "all around us". Shouldn't be too difficult to discuss just one example.

Quote:Kudos to you sir. You discussed the post unlike the others. Also Kudos on admitting that we dont know all yet and not being like many other atheist I'm sure to get that believe there is solid evidence that makes Atheism a fact of some kind.

OH for goodness sake,here we go yet AGAIN;

Atheist means only a lack of belief in god(s) NOTHING ELSE IS IMPLIED OR MAY BE INFERRED. The term comes from the Greek word 'atheos'; a=without, theos=God.

Atheism is NOT; a religion,a philosophy, a political ideology,a system of ethics, a world view ,a movement or a club.

I call myself 'an agnostic atheist'. I assert "I do not believe in gods due to lack of credible evidence" I do not claim to KNOW. You may have noticed that I make no claims of any kind. That means I have no burden of proof,I need prove exactly nothing. That honour belongs 100% to you,as the person making the claims.

I'm also a skeptic (look it up) My atheism is one of the results of my skepticism, not the cause of any other life position.

My position: You believe in God(s)? How wonderful for you!(and I mean that sincerely). You would like me to share your beliefs? No problem;simply show me your evidence to support your claims. If you are unable to do that ,please stop wasting my time and fuck off.

That nobody in recorded history has so far managed to prove or falsify the existence of God (s) is not my problem,it merely means I'm unable believe.

Now I don't mean to be unkind in mentioning the bleedin' obvious, but you have joined an atheist discussion forum. Explicit is the idea that you will make some attempt at civilised conversation, without preaching or attacking our members. If you are unable to comply ,you will be banned. Overall, on this, and most atheist forums, theists are treated with far more respect and acceptance than atheists tend to be on theist forums of any kind.

To be honest, I do not agree with our tolerant policy. If I had my way, theists would be banned on sight,as atheists usually are on theist sites. We owe you nothing.

Bored now.I have nothing further to say to you until I notice a significant change in the content and general attitude of your posts.

Actually I have not insulted or attacked anyone. I'm actually the one that is being insulted and attacked.

I'v stated this. In YOUR realm of thinking something HAS to come from nothing. As well as in mine but theres a big difference. If you actually think of in the realm of that there is a God the fact is that he is God and does not require the need to follow the laws of man like having a beginning or being created by something else. The reason you can comprehend the fact that God has no beginning is because everything in YOUR would does. God is much greater than that. He's GOD he doesn't need to follow the laws of man which he created in the first place. But in your model there is no God with the power to bend the laws of everything needing a beginning. If you truly just think about it a god is the only way for anything to happen because at some point the laws of having no beginning HAVE to be bent.

I remember another idiot that had that same quote on his sig, I'll give a cookie to who remembers who was the guy. Big Grin

Christianity: The belief that something can't come from nothing, except god, a kind of sky pixie all-powerfulll, all-knowing and all-loving that created man from dirt, then punished the first 2 humans for commiting a crime they couldn't comprehend, murdering, pillaging, flooding everyone on earth except some guy and his family that took 2 of each animals in a boat, then sent his son that was actually himself, to sacrify to himself to cover up for his incompetence as a creator. Yep, makes perfect sense.

See? Making strawmen and beating the crap out of them is fun, herpty derp derr...

That's cool, organize it, keep it tight. It can get hectic round these parts sometime. Hell, believe there's already an evidence for god's existence thread...could always start a new one specific to your evidence. However you want to do it. Continuing in this thread is obviously fine as well.

Makes perfect sense . since

"In life you can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. When you go through your day expressing kindness and courtesy to all you meet, you leave behind a feeling of warmth and good cheer, and you help alleviate the burdens everyone is struggling with."

(Gotta give credit where credit is due, had me lol'ing.)

But really, GodIsRealOrNothingMakesSince, why are you here? Are you looking for converts? If so, I don't see where you're getting any traction. I don't think so. I suspect you just prefer to hear the doubts and objections that arise naturally in any thinking person when coerced by ones community to believe the absurd. You would like for those doubts and objections to be 'out there' so that you can go on feeling pure as you do battle with them. I don't really have any strong desire to 'convert' you or free you from the delusion. I have another brother who has become a mormon and I'm convinced he'd be in a padded room or one with bars without it. So if avoiding "nothing making sense" is so important to you, try a stronger dose of the kool aid. (Do you have a white shirt, a tie and a bike?) However it may be time for you to decide if you are ready for the world as you find it rather than the one your community works so hard to conjure, the one you've decided makes sense. You'll have to decide.

I know I most likely get converts. Thats not really what I'm looking for. You see I actually ENJOY intelligent debate and discussing things, it intrigues me. So I felt like doing so and thought i could get my statements out there for people to think about and so that i can hear what you have to say and better understand your belief (or excuse me dis-beleif, as i have been corrected on). Thats why.
