I've been thinking of the concept for a new tattoo I want. The location for it would most likely be my chest, I would be willing to spend a fair amount on it.

If no one else is interested at least this is a place for me to brainstorm my idea.

I want something morbid, artistic, and something with a bit of mystery.

At first I was looking at medieval death art, they're known as danse macabre, here's an example



ontop of this I've been looking at an artist called Caravagio.  I heard about him because I was researching the images in the music video "Losing my religion" by REM.
The images in that are inspired by a combination of art by Caravagio and by a story about a man with angel wings.

This is a Caravagio, which is doubting Thomas, based on the disciple who refused to believe the resurrection until he could put his hands into the wounds of Jesus, that painting next to an image in the REM video.



So basically I'd want something very morbid, I like the idea of cupid and death, I like a lot of the weirdness in the REM video and how it all means something.

I didn't begin researching the losing my religion video because of wanting an atheist related tattoo. It's just coincidental that I've always loved the song and the images in the video.

I am a morbid, skeptical person so I don't mind having a tattoo that displays a skeptical morbid nature though.

Have you looked at albrecht dürer etchings? Or any Myotomia Reformata?

I had looked at Albrecht Durer without knowing it, his work comes up under medieval death art.  His stuff looks ok but it seems a bit overcomplex.

I just searched Myotomia Reforma and the results on that look pretty interesting to me.

I don't know about FrankenChrist I will google it.  I do know about Giger and I have heavily considered that type of art.  I really like the one he did with the female face.  Someone in my work recently got a Giger inspired tattoo sleeve.  That's assuming this is the same Giger I'm thinking of.

Have you looked at Dante's Inferno illustrations?

I've been listenening to the dantes inferno audiobook on YouTube and I looked at the illustrations too.

At the moment I think I've gone off the idea of the complex Caravaggio painting ideas, for now.

I've actually been looking at something totally different at the moment which is graffiti work by banksy.

There's a piece he did of a girl with a balloon flying away from her which I definitely don't want because so many people have that including Justin Beiber, but I did see a pennywise the clown version of it which looked good, I'll post a pic of it later.

I like banksy as an artist but his work would only function well as a small tattoo. I don't think it would look good as a big overall piece and it might clash with other tattoos.

Banksy is modern and it means it might clash if I get other tattoos that have more of an old school or ancient theme.
