I have no intent to open my own office or work in a hospital. I didn't do a clinical with my Master's either. I volunteer at VA hospital some but I can relate with most of those guys just from similar past experiences in the military and after I got. It's good to be able to help where I can some too. I don't think I could deal with the generally mentally ill on a regular basis or listen to a couple whining about marital issues though. "Suck it up" doesn't go as far with them as it does military guys in most cases and even at the VA I will defer some folks off to a more practiced psychologist or psychiatrist that can dig deeper and offer more.     

It's just interesting from a mental level to understand where some folks are "coming from" so to speak. Even when they are talking just bat shit crazy stuff way out in left field, in many cases it's totally normal and rational to them.

I'm hoping CJ can prove the link between consciousness and quantum mechanics!

Relaxing in Chicago after spending the day wandering through the Field Museum.

Poked through my woodpile again, trying to avoid driving 50 miles one way to pick up a piece of wood to complete the supplies for a tool chest I'm making. No joy. I guess I'll have to call another of my retired work buddies and have breakfast and catch up on our lives. Then, it's off to the wood store and home before traffic goes bug nuts. I have to take 35 miles of it on the 405 freeway through the Sepulveda pass, and past LAX. I made that commute for about 27 years, and learned to hate it with a passion. There isn't a lumber yard within 45 miles of me that carries the wood I want- quarter sawn white oak. I thought I had enough, but I'm short the wood necessary for the drawer fronts.

I'd suggest Viagra if you're short the wood necessary for the drawer fronts.

Typing up a long rant about how cancer patients are framed, spurred by the latest episode of the SGU.

May or may not start a thread about it.

Currently thinking not since it's more of a rant than a "discussion" topic, but I don't know... might be interesting to hear what others think about it.
