I believe in gun control, and in banning those that are particularly deadly, but not an outright ban on all guns. That seems very unreasonable and very "big governmenty" to me.
No that is a myth, even with guys.
If someone ALREADY has a gun aimed at you, trying to introduce your own and aim it at them is far more likely to get you killed, than trying to comply or run away.
Even if all they have is a knife, I wouldn't assume introducing a gun would protect you.
Don't fool yourself into thinking pretend scenarios work 100% of the time. Only training and constant upkeep of training with or without a firearm are what can get you through a potential conflict.
But I do agree, I am not for an all out ban either, but we make too many and they are too easy to get.
If someone were to break into my house while I am in it, I would shout at them, "I have my cell phone and I have called the police". I wouldn't present myself, but shout at a distance where they could not see me.

Does anyone find it odd that some of the facts reported does not add up? Was the hotel security staff just asleep at the monitors, or just not paying close enough attention? I know the conspiracy people are jumping all over this one, but some of what is out there does make sense. I happen to know people who work hotel security and the software used is pretty state of the art. How does one get twenty three pieces of luggage through without being noticed in the short time span he had to work with. There are too many unanswered questions, the victims and their familiars deserve answers on how this was allowed to happen.
Nevada really needs to look at it's gun laws, and change them, this state allows no restrictions on fully automatic fire arms and openly sells assault grade weapons. It's time to stop the power of the NRA and stop making these types of weapons for sale to the public. This could of been prevented if major hotels had metal detectors in place, instead of letting people move about as they see fit without question. maybe time to develop better security software that would of alerted the large volume of luggage he had. I hope this is a wake up call for the nation to realize that guns are becoming a major problem production of these assault grade weapons needs to slowed down. This would drive the price up on them, making them more costly to purchase.

He checked in on Thursday. If he used the same couple of pieces of luggage to make several trips, always leaving with and coming back with the same pieces of luggage, he could have easily slipped by casino security.

I think my opinion on the matter is moving after this; prior to this I'd not liked the idea of banning another class of small arms, but then too I was unaware of bump-stocks, for instance. Anyway, thanks for the informed opinions.

For close quarters and in narrow hallways something along the lines of the Taurus Judge or the S&W Governor is all that I'd need. Both guns shoot a variety of 410 shot gun shells as well as a 45 ca. bullet. Much more maneuverable for home defense than a 12 ga. shotgun or a rifle.
Yeah, I was looking at a 1911-type .45 for home defense today. I don't much fear for intruders, but 911 has a thirty-minute response time out here in the sticks. I'd been looking at various short Remington 570s before, but I've got a small place and a handgun seems a better fit.
The 1911 45s are classic. I was looking at those too some time back. I've always been partial to Rugers. It seems you can almost shoot those guns forever and not wear them out
But, over the last couple of years I've been wanting either a Taurus Judge or a Smith and Wesson Governor for home defense, and both are excellent close quarters defense. Either gun are beasts and both shoot a variety of 410 shot shells, including 45 ca. bullets.

One at a time slowly. I think it is bullshit to assume he tried to bring them all in at the same time.
The security are mainly there to prevent cheating so the bulk of the cameras are going to be on the cash cage and the games, not the front lobby. I am sure most of the time they are used to catching cheaters and kicking out drunks. It was not until the shooting started and someone figured out that it was coming from the hotel, that the hotel security was told, and a security guard went up. When the shooting first started it was so high up nobody knew where it was coming from.
No conspiracy going on. We have enough JFK and 9/11 conspiracy nuts, please don't try to create another conspiracy.
