Ethics of sex robots
RE: Ethics of sex robots
It's certainly a fascinating idea, but I honestly doubt that it will have much more of an impact on society or philosophy than RealDolls do now. Unless there's a real-life Arnold Weber from Westworld who can figure out real artificial consciousness, and the companies making the sexbots would be willing to sign off on applying it to their technology (which I highly doubt will happen for reasons that I think should be obvious), I really don't think there's much to worry about. Really, it's probably slightly less morally grey than the shit I do with my laptop, since a sexbot is specifically designed to be screwed.

As for real-world impact, I highly doubt it will have that much of an impact, if only for one reason: they'd have to be fucking expensive. The cheapest version of the RealDoll is about $4000, and most variants are more expensive (the most expensive, the male versions, are about $6000.) A version with a computer inside to make it seem a fairly reasonable simulation of a human woman would almost certainly cost a significantly higher amount.

Fun fact: THIS IS WHAT MANY PEOPLE IN THE MRA COMMUNITY ACTUALLY BELIEVE:

However, from what I've heard, the precursors to sexbots currently on the market (from RealDolls to Fleshlights to anime body pillows; I will call them surrogate girlfriends, because that's what they are) are a niche market at best, and you would almost certainly have to pay far out the ass for a proper sexbot. For this reason, I fully expect them to have a negligible impact on society. The idea that the sort of scenario this jackass comic presents is preposterous to apply to the real world. Despite having more options for such surrogate girlfriends now than at any other time in history, the vast majority of us simply don't bother and still try for the real thing.

A trait shared by many a girlfriend.  In fairness, at least some of their boyfriends are downright unlovable.

I love sex and I love massages.
Massages seem to be a lot harder to obtain.
I'm too stingy to pay for either.
One of the things on my bucket list is to have my head, back, arms and legs massaged all at the same time by six people.

It's like the problem of a christian who is one because they genuinely believe what the bible teaches, or one who's a christian just because they were raised in the church.

I don't think there's much cultural pressure to save sex for marriage anymore. At least in the West, the percentage of people who don't wait are in the 90's.

Anyway, I found this: https://www.google.com/search?ei=4VL2WeP...XryvUt5PTw

Hey this would be a good new topic for you.  Do you think people should wait to find out whether they enjoy sex with the person they wish to marry?  I mean what if you got married and then found out it was totally blah?

I think if you have great love and care for the person, and if you align with them in every other way, you won't leave them over just the sex not being great. There's so much more to people than that, and so much more to a relationship and to love.

But with that being said, I can't imagine sex being bad if it's someone you love a lot and have a strong attraction for. If you both care about each other, you should have open communication about sex, about what feels good, what doesn't, and you can work together at being better for each other.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Couldn't agree more with all of that except the idea that you need to marry them. There are many, many wonderful people in the world, but you can only marry one of them. Of course marriage will be about more than sex but, unless you're intending to be a swinger, they will be the only person with whom you enjoy sex. Think about that a minute. Sex isn't the only or even the best thing in life, but it is a pretty darned good thing at the very least. They say that money and sex are the things married couples fight over the most. If your partner has two left feet in bed, can you be so sure it won't negatively affect the marriage? So why not make sure that person is at least adequate for your needs before you sign that contract? It is more fair to both of you really.

If you enjoy their conversational style and you enjoy dancing with them, admittedly, the chances are very good you will also hit it off in the bedroom. I also agree that if you are open with each other and both are motivated to make it work, your chances are good. But do watch for certain tell tale signs of trouble ahead. For example, if they never audibly fart in your presence, how certain can you be that they aren't holding back other things as well?

I can't stand massages. I don't mind giving them. But I can't stand taking them.
