MakeApp - 2 steps forward for feminism
November 16, 2017 at 8:22 am
There's a new app called MakeApp, which has a function that lets you see what someone's face looks like without make up. The results are pretty good. What I like about it is that it does two things :
By showing women how celebrities look without make up, it gives them the confidence of knowing that they are good enough as they are, and that they don't have to conform to society's beauty standards.
By showing men what ordinary women look like without make up, it teaches them to appreciate natural beauty, and to appreciate personality.
I think this is such a great little app. I just thought I'd share.

I prefer little or no makeup anyway!

I can appreciate the intention, but honestly I feel like this type of thinking is counter productive.
We shouldn't have to compare ourselves to other women to feel confident. We shouldn't have to say "See?? Megan Fox isn't actually that pretty!" to feel good about ourselves.
As for men, maybe it's better not to focus so much on women's appearences, period. Whether that's the "natural look" or not. Just MHO.

Hi ya DBE. Can I interest you in an introduction thread so that we can get to know you better?
Um........ men need to be taught natural beauty? Don't they see it growing up? It's not like they've never seen a woman without makeup.

I think most men would say they prefer a natural look. Though makeup can be done to cover up flaws and enhance certain features while still looking completely natural.

The MakeApp will, and probably already has been, be used to shame women for how they look without makeup. Men who are looking for the so-called natural beauty will shame women who use makeup to improve their appearance. Also I don't imagine the app can actually remove the makeup, rather than add imperfections that might not be there in the first place.

I don’t think it could be accurate unless it already has an image of the person without make up

Yeah. The app throws soap and water on the woman’s face, then scrubs. Very accurate.
It has technology that can reach out the screen and wipe off the goo.
