I would, but apparently he's forbidden.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

But you weren't interested in exchanging ideas, just pissing and moaning. I tried to be courteous in my first post, but you seem to have a need to be adversarial. Drop the narcissistic attitude and maybe an actual debate will ensue.

One of my big problems about atheism is the lack of community. Something that religions do well is to provide a community structure and support system. There is no equivalent for the atheist. There is no such thing as an "atheist community". There is no equivalent to the parish priest to whom I can take my troubles.
That's because it's not as necessary, we don't need "church" like groups because most atheists don't need atheism specific support in the real world, their support structures result from other outlets in society.
It's the "No sheep here" effect, we don't gravitate around some highly motivating claims of truth, authority, morality or promises of eternal life so you wouldn't expect as much social unity around any kind of atheism.
Quote:I would have preferred to have been able to take my problem to someone with a similar role, but without the religion, only there is no-one. There is within atheism no structure for such a person. There is no structure of anything within atheism. On a local level, I mean.
So go to a councillor! Atheists wouldn't pretend that they're qualified to give people advice on personal matters, unlike the priests with no legitimate training who just as often manage to make people feel like shit - If you've got an issue you need to talk about someone qualified to give advice is what you need.
Quote:What I think is needed is a kind of atheist church, a place where atheists can meet regularly to celebrate their atheism and in order to develop a sense of community. Only how on earth such a thing could be brought about is completely beyond me. Any ideas?
Are you unaware of how many Atheist organisations there are? And then the Skeptics organisations on top of that... Plus the conferences and community meetup grounds... Go do some looking, you're likely to find something near you.

Quote:Atheism is indeed set on a course to defeat religion.
I agree to point, but am not holding my breath. Religions exists because it meets human needs.Once those needs are met in other ways, religion ceases.
I don't think it's coincidental that there is a high correlation between poverty, ignorance and religion, and affluence, education and secularism/ atheism.

One atheist says atheism is set on defeating religion, one atheist says it is not. Which is it?

Neither. Apart from the fact that atheists don't believe in a god or gods there is absolutely no reason why they should agree on anything else at all..

Some atheists are set on defeating religion, some are not. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.
