Losing respect for Rand Paul

I think Rand Paul's responses to Colbert's questions are very dodgy. I can imagine he's in a difficult position as a Republican right now, and I think he's hedging by standing for nothing (like his response to Colbert's first question).
Then, at 3:03, he defends against Mueller's investigation by basically saying that if you dig around enough, of course you are going to dig up some dirt. I couldn't agree more with Colbert's reply: if you dug around all my phone calls, emails, and conversations, and then ask me about it in interview, I wouldn't lie. I've never said anything I wouldn't either stand by or be able to explain why I held that view at the time. So why would I expect less from my politicians? And if I were a politician, I would expect that my constituents would want my private conversations to be consistent with my public ones!
There should be no sympathy for lying politicians from voters. In fact, I think it's actually the role of law enforcement to dig around for stuff like this - it's a rare act against corruption.
So yeah, I'm going to have to find a new favorite Republican now. Not easy.

Actually, it might be McCain, for this:
