No, he didn't abuse her. They had sexy times.

Monica Lewinsky Still Passing the Buck
|
She's not so much calling it rape as calling it "not her fault."
That doesn't really count as Me Too though right? Isn't Me Too about victims of abuse?
Part of me wonders if she saw the opportunity and did this more for the attention. She always struck me as a narcissist.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I think she is BLOWING this out of prortion.
I will grab me coat.
I see no point in re-litigating President Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. So Vanity Fair published a story about her. So what? They're a crap magazine anyway. Whether Ms. Lewinsky speaks out or "shuts the he'll up" forever has no impact on my life whatsoever. I've got more important issues to contemplate.

I can't tell whether that's snarky or not (sorry, Internet doesn't really leave room for subtleties). I'll just say it doesn't affect my life either, but this is a discussion board, so I thought I'd discuss it. If you have more important issues to contemplate, you don't have to take up the time you could spend on them by commenting here. Again, I can't tell if that was just your take on the discussion or your assessment of people discussing it, so forgive me if I'm responding to intentions that didn't exist. As for me, I thought it was interesting on several levels that Ms. Lewinsky continues to bring this up as some evil that was done against her. In the grander scheme of social movements that are happening right now, it is relevant and therefore worth talking about.
Is anyone else conflicted by the Me Too movement? I am.
It's like this. No one, male or female's job (unless they actually signed up to be a prostitute) should ever have their job hinge on giving out sexual favors. No boss should ever imply that it does. Full stop. Some people actually want to sleep with their bosses. They shouldn't get any sympathy if they do and it goes sour unless the boss fires or demotes them because it soured. But that doesn't mean that every women who complains was actually forced to have sex. Even women,, yes women and kids, lie sometimes. Nor does it mean that every man or woman who was ever asked out by their boss is a victim. So a single unsupported accusation shouldn't end anyone's career. Perhaps some investigation first? And there's the time frame problem. Sleep with me or else is/was always wrong. But innuendo and leering in 1980 and earlier might be given a pass for ignorance. But any moderation appears to be not allowed. It's getting as impossible to compromise as gun control and abortion rights. Monica wanted to have sex with the Pres. Her choice, her problem.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Sure, I can support the assertion that in the grander scheme of social movements that are happening right now, President Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky is relevant and worth talking about. But why then say that one of the principals - Ms. Lewinsky - should just shut up? She has a right to opine on the matter too. -Teresa
