Ha! This thread is a year old. We've just kept going because we all have ongoing goals, so start whenever you want. So far, I think Industrial Lad has made the most progress, but Joods and Cathooloo are making huge changes too.

Forgive me if I missed anyone who's been doing really well. I try to keep up.

In the spirit of "what gets measured gets managed," I went out and got a digital bathroom scale. (Previous scale got given away some time ago because it was one of those cranky deals with springs, and was hard to read unless the lights were all the way up.)

Benchmark starting point, 9 p.m. this evening (after supper): 233 pounds. I'm going to take morning and evening readings for a week or two to see how much things fluctuate over the day, and try to sneak up on healthier eating bit by bit.

Good for you. I find morning and evening readings are best too. We lose a lot of weight overnight (several pounds). It's good to get an idea of where you're weight is really falling, not just when your tummy is full or when you've fasted all night.

I have heartburn. Are there certain foods I can eat or not eat to reduce that?

Maybe I've been eating too much cheese.

I have changed to using a weekly average to see where I'm at, still weighing at least daily. Any individual measurement becomes less important, so I don't stress about them. All that matters is the average over the last week compared to the week prior.

I try to do that. I'm a habitual checker. I have to knock that shit off.

Hammy, my family has a history of GERD and barrett's esophagus. We're all pretty fucked. For some people, it depends on what triggers them specifically. However, there are a few foods that are universal acid producers. Eating before bed and eating too much cause it too. So, fatty foods, peanut butter, acidic foods and, for me, heavily-seasoned foods.

If it's gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the things to minimize are fat, caffeine and alcohol, and it's important to get enough protein in your diet.  If it gets particularly nasty when you lie down at night, you might need to raise the head of the bed 3-4 inches so that you're not lying completely flat.

So, we've had a catastrophic wind storm here in New England. That means no power and no access to healthy food. My diet has officially gone down the shitter.

Doing pretty good despite being on vacation. I'm eating WTF I want but haven't given in to gluttony.

I've been tracking my weight morning and night for three days, with a low of 227.5 and a high of 233.3. Some of this is undoubtedly clothing differences, but there's still a morning/night fluctuation of around three pounds. Will continue gathering data.

Also thinking of starting up a "food record" and writing down literally everything I eat to see if there are patterns there.
