The gratuitous use of vulgarity is like streets defaced by graffiti and littered with garbage. I am not a prude and I do not take offense. But I am saddened that some people treat AF like a ghetto and force everyone else to stroll through their filth.
Do I sound fucking filthy to you you silly arsed motherfucking swear-o-phobe?
If I'm filthy at all, it's only in the tastiest of ways. Nudge-nudge wink-wink perv-perv.

But you swear lol.
Neo is against any threads with any swearwords in whatsoever. But swearing is great. I'm exaggerating just to make a point that there's nothing wrong with so-called "bad" words.
No, he was specifically talking about thread titles containing overly vulgar language and blatant bigotry. He specifically said he doesn't mind the thread itself containing it.

Nah, I've failed the AF admittance test based on my low IQ, as evidenced by my opposition to profanity.
Don't make ridiculous assertions for the sake of being glib if you don't really mean them. I understand some people on this site hold nothing sacred... you, Hammy, don't think 'vulgar' is a concept. It's the one thing that really bothers me about this site. Just because you don't believe in a god doesn't mean you need to sink to every level of degradation for the sake of it.
There's nothing special about curse words... most people figure this out when they're around 16 years old and get over the novelty, some people never outgrow it. Like any words, they have an effect. Repeatedly summoning whatever dregs of a shock factor you can by referring to sexual words with offensive connotations isn't somehow special or funny or cool, it just telegraphs a lack of discipline. It's degrading.
Not my business how other people conduct themselves, but it's not an environment I enjoy, because I like to be around people I can respect.

Running the risk of a real thread in the suggestions box...we use "vulgar" language because it's expressive. Vulgarity, contrary to the beliefs of prudish moralizers..is an indication of verbal fluency - of competency and intelligence.
On the internet...where there is no tone or visual prompting to impart the sorts of things common to "normal" conversation..vulgarity does double duty.
"These vicars!"
"These fucking vicars!"
One is ambiguous, and so..inept. I suppose we could type out "These [shakes head slowly while making disparaging glances towards the heavens] vicars!"..but, you know....a certain four letter word exists. The vicars (and people who like vicars) might predictably consider this pointless vulgarity and unbecoming and on and on and on..but..these fucking vicars...right?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

The point was that I didn't. That's why I said "don't be fucking silly".
Swearing *is* an indicator of higher intelligence and it *does* relieve stress and pain. That is backed up by science.
It's not a baseless assertion to just point out a fact... but it is baseless and fucking silly for you to suggest that I was saying that I'm a genius because I swear a lot and you're too stupid to understand my constant swearing because you don't swear enough lol. Nowhere did I say any such fucking thing
Just because swearing is a sign of higher intelligence statistically doesn't mean someone is a fucking idiot if they don't swear. But nor is there anything wrong with swearing and it is actually good for your health.
Once again, it's only as wrong as people believe it is based on nothing. Much like actual curses ala witches and black magic and the like. Superstition likewise only upsets people when they believe in it. Being hurt by so-called "bad" words that aren't bad, is much the same.
So I said "don't be fucking silly" because you made a strawman that was fucking silly

Swearing can be a sign of intelligence. It can also be a sign of immaturity. There’s a difference between using swear words to express certain meanings and using them excessively just to bother people.

Words do have weight and carry meaning though. As humams, it's the number 1 way we communicate and express ourselves. An obvious example: I can't just start calling people "nigger" and tell them not to care because it's just a word. I dont think that would fly, as it shouldnt. Words have meaning.
Again, I'm not complaining about all the vulgarity on AF's main page via thread titles. No skin off my back. But do I think it is somewhat trashy looking? Yes. Yes I do. I don't think anyone should be criticised for having that opinion.

Hmm I mostly just look at “my posts” with an occasional peek at “new posts”. I don’t see any swear words in any titles right now. I must be confused about what main page you mean because when I look at the main page I just see a list of forums and sub forums and no actual titles. I think it’d be cool if people just didn’t use really vulgar words in their titles but I don’t think we should have a rule against it, mainly for reasons I already said like that it would be impossible to agree on which words were ok and which are too vulgar for titles, but also because I think the rules should be the bare minimum to keep the forum running and whenever possible we shouldn’t limit people on what they’re allowed to say here.
I don’t know if it’s because I don’t pay attention or what but I don’t really think we have that many posts with vulgarities in the titles.
