RE: Live long or die young?
Where I come from and what I've personally seen the number of old people that die happy are FAR outnumbered by the number of old people that die sad and lonely and often in misery. You wanna role the dice, go right ahead, but don't be surprised when your misery far outweighs any amount of happiness that the morphine gives you.

Watching everyone of your friends die off. Watching your children possibly die, screw up, or just plain forget about you. The brutal pain that comes with arthritis, Parkinsons, Alzheimers and the plethora of diseases that await you in your 70s. Those drugs you're taking aren't any fun anymore because you can't do shit and all you do is sleep all day because your body is slowly breaking down and just doesn't have the energy anymore. All this while you die in obscurity thinking about the life you could've had and all the pain you could have avoided.

You wanna role the dice, be my guest. The odds are against you, and old age looks terrifying. Both of my grandmothers were praying for death at the end. One of them was the last one of her siblings to die. She had 9 brothers and sisters. you talk about loneliness.

Old age - it's all yours.

I've hung around with old hippies and aging stoners. As far as I can see, the misery isn't outweighing anything, past the regular misery that comes from not having enough friends or feeling like one can't state what they feel.

I've already have had friends die. One was from cancer.

And I've long seen people screw up, relatives screw up and friends screw up. I've seen my siblings screw up.

And I've been forgotten. By people I considered real friends, I might add.

I am in the most isolated state I've been in years.

There is nothing to prevent you from committing suicide in this hypothetical, so were it to become a burden, there is always a way out.

And, seeing Minimalist, I know that when I get old and crochety, I'm going to be posting on forums. And playing games. And doing drugs.

Funny enough, the same shit I do now.

Hats off to you Min.

When I get old, I plan to hang with as many young people as possible and serve as their Old Hippy. When I'm old, I'm modeling myself after Tommy Chong. When I get old, I'm going to be posting on these insignificant forums, in places like this where like minds congregate.

This is the motherfucking 21st century.

Being old and not giving a fuck is more possible than it ever was before, with better medical care, hollow pursuits (games) and better transportation.

Hell, self driving cars are becoming more of a possibility each day, like Google's autonomous vehicles. This has great benefits for old people (and car-less assholes like me).

But is all that worth giving up the chance to do something really useful for humanity? After all, you could choose to be famous because you cured cancer or brought peace to the middle-east. The question just said fame, but not for what.

That very fame can come around for murdering over a dozen children then being granted diplomatic immunity on the eve of prosecution.

Is fame suddenly as sexy now?

No, but I'm glad you'd die young.

Wouldn't your example be more a case of " infamy "?
padraic, ref. your preferred age-to-be, If I had the choice I'd be 16 again.
HuhA man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

Oh no, is for those people that I reserve thoughs of horrible, painful long lives so that they may suffer as much as possible.

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
