Living creatures have found ways to make use of photo-reactive cells since the dawn of time. Flora has no use for eyes but plenty of use for chloroplasts, all forms of higher life depend on just such a use.

Cool stuff. I never knew that before.
Since sea urchins do not have eyes, evolution made them in such a way so that they can 'see' with their whole bodies. A theist such as myself, however, could also argue that their ability to see even without having eyes is one of the possible signs of intelligent design (while viewing evolution as a means of creation).

No doubt my urge to fart in public is also a possible sign of intelligent design.

You do have a hole in the back to let it out whenever you feel like it. The only problem is that it smells very bad sometimes.
