I think it goes without saying most here know how much I hate that fucker. But not bowing your head or singing a song does not mean the same hate he has and selfishness he has. There were times at the Unitarian Church I used to attend where I did not do certain things, and nobody batted an eye. 

I wouldn't have bowed my head or sang either. Not out of hate, but simply because it is not my thing. Trump did that for a far different reason. He did it because he was put in a position he was not used to, actually having to be at an event that was not about him. He hated the imagery of that row of political diversity honoring someone who wasn't a dick like him. 

When my late mother's memorial was held at her assisted living home, I made the arrangements as per her beliefs, bought the flowers and food. I let the priest say what he wanted, and let the music play as it did, and let the mourners say what they wanted. But I didn't bow my head or pray myself. I didn't refrain out of protest or spite, but simply because it was not my thing. My late mother would have understood.

His body language to me wasn't about " I hate religion" but more like " how can I play a good Jerry Springer Mafia boss if I have to restrain myself."

But it is a bit hypocritical of him to vilify NFL players for not being sheep while doing what he did today.

It is expected of him to show up, I don't see how it is his duty to pray or sing though. The oath does say "No religious test."

You can be a diplomat and a mere observer. 

I do think he didn't want to be there at all regardless if he did believe or not. I think that was a smooth move on the Bush's part knowing he'd be put in the awkward position of having to be nice to those around him.

When a good chunk of your base is deeply religious, you'd better at least turn your head, close your eyes, and move your lips. Chances are he didn't sing because he doesn't know the lyrics.

It's not the lack of religion but hypocrisy. Trump has pandered to this base but clearly doesn't share their beliefs.

I think we finally found a line that Trumpty Dumpty either knew not to cross or his previously ineffective handlers spelled out to him with the fat crayons and puppets.

After the way he acted when McCain died...fucking this up would have been too much, even for the trumpophiliacs.

Two things struck me today.

First, when Trump dies they will have to hold his "memorial" between bouts of a Wrestlemania performance.  That's where his fucking fans will be.

Second, when Trump dies no one will have to worry about building him a Presidential Library.

Trump drama aside, I thought one of the sweetest moments at the service was when Jimmy Carter reached over and squeezed Mrs. Carter's knee.  It looked unforced, unplanned, and really un-self conscious. Just an affectionate gesture to his wife of 72 years.
