There are sound arguments against having completely open borders, but this issue gets confused in the heads of scaredycat white folk. Migrant workers pose no threat whatsoever.
If anyone has a problem with migrant workers, I'd remind them that they have a problem with capitalism. Since our government won't allow citizen workers to be exploited as much as the market demands, capitalism has begun importing exploitables from latin America. Ain't no wall gonna contain what the market demands.
The overall impact of migrant workers on the economy is minimal. This is because migrant workers buy American goods and services while they live here... they stop at gas stations, they go out for beers, they go bowling, etc. This (in the long run) creates some jobs for US citizens.
Individually, American citizens lose a few pennies from their paychecks each month. If the Trumpsters really want those precious pennies back in their paychecks, they need to realize that their increase in income will be offset by pricier produce. The only thing keeping those oranges so damn cheap is good ol' human exploitation.
Of course, the immigration issue has nothing to do with job competition. It's all about ethnic purity. Because capitalism keeps importing the exploitables, the ethnic face of our country is changing. Whitey doesn't want to find out what it feels like for the shoe to be on the other foot. After all, as history has shown, that can be pretty undesirable. Too bad. So sad.
Every ethnic shift in American history has come with foreboding prophecies of "America's ultimate demise at the hands of liberated minorities." Somehow, we keep chuggin' along. And not only that, we keep improving the place for everyone.
"America" will come to an end some day. That's unavoidable. It has happened to the greatest empires in every epoch. The mighty will eventually fall. I would prefer that our footnote in the history books doesn't contain the phrase "a fate mirroring the downfall of the Third Reich..." Therefore, I remain optimistic about the changing ethnic face of America. It might just be a sort of revitalization that keeps us going for another couple centuries.
