The only other band to me, that sounded similar were The Monkees, which actually started out as a TV show mimicking the band style of that era. 

The answer is Head made in 1968.

It isn't incorrect to say that the Beatles did not make a movie another band did make. But that wasn't what you were looking for. Ok, I get it now. 

Basically what idea was bandied about but never went anywhere. That is a tough one, because you are looking for a specific idea I think. But when I looked at wiki, and maybe I am reading it wrong, there were a couple ideas that got no traction.

Well, if that was the standard, it also wouldn't be incorrect to say that the Beatles didn't make a film that ANYONE else made.  Since that isn't the standard, I'm also not accepting 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', 'Barefoot In The Park' or 'Night Of The Living Dead'.

But yes, it was an idea that didn't go anywhere. 'Three Musketeers' is wrong.
