Op/ed "War on" and "fighting" disease....
March 25, 2020 at 5:16 pm
Name the disease, infection, bacteria, virus, cancer, whatever. None of those things are things we "fight", but things humans try to figure out how to cure or mitigate/manage.
I think it is useless to use words like "fight" and "war" when we are talking about human illness that happens to everyone regardless of what it is. I think Christopher Hitchens in his last days got it right. Sure his cancer was nothing anyone would want, and he admitted his habits played a role in shorting his life. But he got it right in saying it isn't something you "fight" because it is in you. It is not something you can pick up an A-R 15 and shoot.
I get that having a positive attitude can extend life. But it isn't a war or isn't something you fight. Death is nothing anyone can avoid, nobody escapes it.
What finds solutions to eradicate or manage a disease is science. Prevention too. It should not be looked at as a "war" or "fight" but seeking solutions.

Well, the Beastie Boys vowed to fight for their right to party.
‘Fight’ - like most words - has plenty of different meanings. Not every use of the word ‘fight’ has to imply violence. An addict can ‘fight’ their addiction. You can ‘fight’ a traffic summons in court.
There are plenty of online dictionaries that can help you with this problem.

You cant shoot a disease with a machine gun or tank or bomb. Humans endured it yes, but it was not a fight between humans. Nobody fights a disease anymore one can fight death. One can only manage and delay. Cures also not a matter of war, but of scientific method.

Okay - I fought with breast cancer. Do you have any idea what putting one foot in front of the other is like when you are in pain, exhausted, and dealing with a myriad of other issues...it's a fucking fight.

Lol, it’s got nothing to do with it GOP. It’s got to do with your inability to accept that words can have multiple meanings.

Ya see, there go your limitations again. Hundreds of Panamanians went into the jungles armed to the teeth with
spray cans filled with oil to kill off the mosquitoes carrying the disease.

His dictionary only has Def 1 entries.

He has already explained that he doesn't use dictionaries...that the suggestion of the use of a dictionary is stupid.
