The original Carrie horror movie.

The original Carrie horror movie.
That movie scared the crap out of me as a kid, just like the Exorcist. But back then I was very superstitious young, had no friends, and bullied.

I just sat through Carrie today, just to pass the time. I of course no longer believe in superstitious garbage, but I have to say, the plot of that movie was still moving.

Carrie had an abusive mother, and was bullied in school. Looking back at the movie now, I could totally identify with Carrie in her feeling alone with nobody to turn to, but because of bullying also at the same time having a lack of trust issue, in not knowing who was trying to help you, or set you up. In watching that old movie today, I still got angry at her bullies, but wanted to scream at Carrie that the people who wanted to help her, only wanted to help her.

But I definitely still remember the pain of bullying.

WAY preferable to the remake IMO, an excellent film, awesome, in fact.

I hardly characterize Carrie as a horror movie. More like a gory chick flick.

No shit, I think it was 2013 when the remake came out. I don't know how well it did money wise in theaters, but I stumbled on it a couple years ago, I couldn't get through it.

Again, I still scoff at the religious and supernatural crap in it. But from a human empathy aspect, I do love the script. You felt for her being bullied, you wanted to stand up for her like her gym teacher and even the popular couple who also felt bad for her.

Yeah, you might want to check the title of this thread.

Honestly, all three versions have their positives (yes, there was a TV version on 2002, which was more faithful to the book and has some of the best performances, but had worse special effects and making the questionable choice of having Carrie live at the end). And their flaws. Honestly, I still think none of them can truly hold a candle to the book.

I actually get what Last is saying thinking about it. It really isn't a zombie or sasher or monster film, it is a "supernatural" movie, but there has never been a separate category called that.

I only use that title "Horror" because that is a common use for supernatural motifs with a violent aspect.

But I also wouldn't call it a "Chick flick" either. Guys get bullied too, and trust me, there are a lot of females I have seen in my life, that were/are mentally tougher and stronger than I was growing up and could have used them as friends to protect me.

Ok, so you wouldn’t call it a horror movie, but you called it a horror movie. And you wouldn’t call it a chick flick, but you called it a chick flick.

It’s squarely and firmly in the horror genre, and it isn’t remotely a chick flick.

You know, the funny thing is that the original novel is actually structured like a documentary, with King's telling of the tale regularly interrupted by fictional news documents and in some cases, even transcripts of a hearing before the Senate with them trying to get a hold of what happened after Carrie destroyed the town. And the sad thing is that shit like this happens a lot these days, just without psychic powers.
