Furthermore were you just as outraged by JAPAN'S use of fire bombs on "civilian" targets BEFORE the US did it in Japan

The outcome of NOT making the raid on Tokyo would have allowed imperial war production in that area to continue unimpeded.

If you’re going to accuse someone of cowardice, pin it on the Japanese. Decentralizing war production into a civilian area is EXACTLY the same as using human shields, a cynical, cowardly tactic if ever there was one.

Guimudaijin did finally write a declaration of war, AFTER they learned about the attacks on American and British territories. The military didn't tell them about the start of the Great Pacific War until it had already begun.

I don't blame them, actually.

Pearl was straight up brilliant. Fun fact, one of (if not the) chief architects of the attack was one of the most vocal critics of war with the us. In the end, seeing that conflict was inevitable, he resigned himself to the necessity of giving his country the best position it could open with.

Yeah, Yamamoto Isoruku threatened to resign if the raid on Pearl Harbor was not authorized. He said that it would not be enough to defeat the US in the Pacific, they would have to march into Washington and dictate surrender terms in the White House.

BUT he said jack shit about any sleeping giant.

Indeed had it worked the US pacific fleet would have scrap which would helped. Though it would not have won the war .Another interesting fact Yamamoto got his inspiration for the attack from a British fictional work called the THE GREAT PACIFIC WAR and The British Airforce Attack on th Italian port of Taranto during the previous war

It was actually Swordfish from the Royal Navy, not the RAF.

And Homer Wallin's book on the Pearl Harbor salvage operation illustrated that sinking ships in shallow harbors is almost a waste of time.
