I don't know, I don't agree that people don't hang on his words. I think they do. The "Proud Boys" celebrated Trump's call to "stand by" immediately. You're right, people believe what they want to believe. 

The backlash against Whitmer is puzzling and exasperating. The conspiracy against her was actually not a surprise to me, but the opposition she's been facing has been.

Both her and Trump need to sit down, shut up - let the legislature make the laws and then sign them - unless they really think something is a horrible idea. If they are wrong - the legislature can override the veto.....

As we have seen, the legislature can move quite slowly.  In the cases of emergencies, executive orders are the way to go.  That's not to say all executive orders are good things.
