A nice thing about iron is that one can usually reheat and reform it.

That's what I was attempting. I was annealing some old wood rasps, got distracted and fucked up the cooling process and had to start over.

It doesnt't work particularly well - as a file is not really the kind of material you want in a knife. The hardness is case hardening - and generally what you end up with is a blade that has alternating hard and soft spots....


You would do better with a steel made for thru hardening...

Making chisels. Post-annealing and shaping, you can oil quench them and get the hardness back.

Figured out the wooden puzzle boxes I bought to gift two of the grandchildren with money for Christmas. Then went online and learned how to fold a bill into a heart.
