'Add suicides.....' ?
Yeah, I suppose there's not much difference between popping some pills or popping some lead.

Thanks Peebo - even my husband is voicing concern over all this going on lately. With most schools closed and some workplaces still not at capacity with people working at home...the shootings are smaller scale, more frequent, and closer to home. I am now quite content with seldom leaving the house. It's safer here. There are people out there. <sigh>

Well, even with suicides, justifiables, and even unintentionals removed, the number is still alarmingly high.
Or perhaps, in Biker’s world, 13,661 annually is just not a number high enough to get out of bed for.
And before anyone asks what would be a sufficiently low number, well, this Wikipedia page has a table of countries by gun homicide rates. One of the sortable columns is the rate of homicides. Sort that column from highest to lowest. The first one (besides the US) that you think you’d be reasonably safe if you just walked the city streets with no itinerary and no guide, that’s the sort of rate to go for. Then again, I wouldn’t put it past Biker to say he’d be fine walking the streets of El Salvador, with its stupefyingly high murder rates.

The interesting number is suicides by gun.
The statistics say that it is more likely that having a gun in your home is much more likely to kill yourself or a member of your family (most likely suicide, but possibly accident or murder) than a criminal.
I am not anti-gun, but without a good reason, I wouldn't have one in my home. I might use one at a range, however.

That statistic is designed to be misleading.
It's like saying that you are more likely to drown if you have water.
Pretty unlikely in the middle of the Sahara.
....
If somebody is going to end their life - they'll find a way. As long as they don't take anyone with them - I say it's their right.
A gun is as good a way as any - and better than many.

Punk --- don't suppose you know my world.

Explain then why the anti gun faction isn't happy with that 13,661 number. It's more accurate.
But you embrace the lies - don'tcha??

This has to be the one stat, that the right ignores that pisses me off the most.

The anti-gun faction uses higher numbers because they don’t just count one particular type of gun deaths. And, unless they’re stupid or being deliberately deceptive, when they use the higher number, they don’t call say that “30k+ gun murders per year,” it’s “30k+ gun deaths per year.” It’s still accurate, and, if the laws are properly all-encompassing, they’ll likely make a dent in the gun suicide numbers as well.

You are obviously of the opinion that ALL guns must be taken away.

My suggestion - move to Japan. That's how they roll..

It's not like the safety of the citizenry is of any comparable importance to your right to unrestricted guns
My suggestion - move to Iraq. That's how they roll. You can openly carry anything from pistols to machine guns in public, and for any or no reason. Perfect for your gun rights absolutism.

All of the stats - gun murders, gun accidents, gun suicides, gun injuries - won’t be affected by changes in laws. They can be greatly reduced by, among other things, changing the way people think about guns.
