The problem of the soul
#41
RE: The problem of the soul
All the ridicule aside, it seems that everyone tacitly accepts the reality of nonphysical intangibles all the time...from holes to things like authenticity, ownership, and honor.

I have no objection whatsoever to the reality of intangibles. What gets on my tits is taking that which is perfectly, obviously a physical tangible phenomenon and labeling it as ‘intangible’.

You know, things like plasma and electricity.

No, my favorite is "Pure Energy". How many times...
Why is it so?

And there's a reasonably obvious line between nonphysical intangibles, and physical things that seem to be intangible but are just hard to access with human senses.

Never did understand that old evangelical trope "Have you seen the wind?", delivered as if it was some sort of "Gotcha, atheists!" argument.  You may not be able to see it, but it's pretty darned easy to feel it.  And electricity.  And very likely plasma as well (although I strongly recommend not trying to feel that).

hmm, I'm sure Nudger understands that "plasma is more of a transitional state of matter" that superheated matter goes through.
But stupid is quite a premature accusation.

Dude - you just said the sun is not a physical object. If that doesn’t qualify as stupid, it’ll do til stupid comes along.

The sun is not a physical object: it is PLASMA. Dude, read here please and stop diverting from the truth the Quran founded that souls might actually be electricity:

Quote:To make plasma, energy is needed to strip electrons from atoms. The energy can be of various forms – heat, electrical or light (ultraviolet light or intense visible light from a laser). With insufficient sustaining power, plasmas recombine into neutral gas.

As a man of science; as a high GPA CS graduate, I'm telling you: saying "plasma is matter." only, can make you fail the exam sheet because that is only a fraction of the definition, and it's a big fat misleading fraction too: superheated matter is not matter anymore; just like "gas" isn't "liquid" anymore.

So now gases aren't matter?

And to get back on topic, my argument stands: If souls come from God and are electricity, then God is a physical being.

Solid, liquid, gas, and plasma are the states of MATTER.

It's still matter regardless of which state it is in.

What I think is tripping you up, Winter, is that plasma states can break down the atomic structure. Hydrogen plasma is almost like a soup of free electrons and protons. But it is still (by definition) matter.

I think what’s tripping him up is that he made the silly contention that ‘souls are electricity’, got caught out in the terrific illogic of that statement, and isn’t mature enough to say, ‘Maybe I should rethink that...’
