Road trip playlist - looking for suggestions

We have a lengthy road trip coming up and our theme for the play list is "Albums I have never listened to".
I've already decided to grab some random selections from bands that influenced the stuff I generally listen to (mostly British heavy metal and other rock debauchery).
I'm looking for some suggestions out of left field WRT my preference.
What would you put on the turntable to turn someone on to a band, solo performer, or genre of music?

I would think the destination would have quite the impact on the tone.....
After all - if you' re going to Cancun - the funeral dirges that would be appropriate if headed to Pittsburg might seem a bit out of place.....

First three albums that sprang to mind: Can't go too far wrong with Satriani's Surfing With The Alien, Blind Guardian's A Night At The Opera or Steve Hackett's Spectral Mornings.
