Over the last few days, I've had two system notices telling me the Firewall and antivirus are turned off. When I check, the system shows everything is fine.   Any ideas? I'm using Avira anti virus and it's always running.

Has anyone tried Windows 11? My system needs upgrading before it will accept Windows 11. Because it seems to be buggy, I'm thinking of waiting for 12 months. Any comments?

Download the rootkit scanner from Malwarebytes and run it. Disabling AV is typical rootkit behavior.

Addendum: Had never heard of a rootkit virus (or if I have I've forgotten) Self taught, some embarrassing grey areas.

Did as you suggested, and the scan is running. Or not. How long should a scan take, roughly? It's been running for half and hour and seems frozen, although the only command I can give is 'cancel'

A question: My Avira antivirus give real time protection. Shouldn't it detect a rootkit virus? Just asking, because I don't understand. Rootkit viruses seem to be common and potentially serious.
