Would you punish/torment religious people, if you could? How far does your disdain for religion go?

How many of you would punish religious people for being religious?

As long as people don't push their beliefs on others, I don't care if someone wants to worship a badly taxidermied squirrel.

I know a fair number of atheists in RL, and NONE of them would even consider doing what you suggest. In fact, the less religious someone is, the stronger their support of religious freedom tends to be. You clearly don’t understand what atheism and secular humanism are all about. Boru

Why would I want to punish them?
If they keep their childish beliefs to themselves and don't try to push them on me I simply don't care.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it! RE: How many of you would punish religious people for being religious?

I had the misfortune of meeting or debating some of them. I don't think that the so called anti theists would resort to torture, but some of them, if they had the power, would put exercising religion under penalty. You find a certain percentage of psycho loonies in any group. It’s certainly the case, though, that religious conservatism and advocacy for religious persecution seem to coincide. Boru

Not holding the position that a God/s/god/s super natural exist does not mean we will eat your babies. It merely means we are not buying the logic or reasoning or alleged "evidence". I most certainly value human rights. Now. just like everything, I do think there can be limits to putting up with something. I don't think it is right for parents to deny medical aid to a child that is critical in keeping them alive, based on religion. I also certainly wood be very concerned if ANY religion started infecting politics to the point we looked like a theocracy. Religion belongs in the private sector and that does not mean out of sight. It just means government is not the place to preach. But no, even if a large segment of society were doing those horrible things, if I was part of the opposition and defeated them, I would simply detain them and or offer them an alternative to what they were doing. Even the prisoners of GITMO got three meals a day and were able to pray and read their Koran. FYI just so you know Putin invokes God all the time, and his good Christian soldiers are committing war crimes in Ukraine. RE: How many of you would punish religious people for being religious?

I'd have absolutely no reason to do that. What they believe is their business.
The only problem I have with religion is when people use theirs to try to control others. Your assumption that atheists automatically have disdain for religious people is flawed and incorrect. And frankly dumb.
