Google the average rent of a one bedroom apartment in the US - it’s just over $1000/month. If securing a flat works the same way in the US as it does here, you need a decent credit rating and $3000 to move in. How many homeless people do you imagine can do that?

Thinking about these horrific examples reminds me of being in the back seat as my mom drove my dad to the hospital after a hunting accident. Thinking about it, I'm not sure that ever happened.

Though it does remind me of the time my dad let a chainsaw run up the side of his calf. I've been very careful with chainsaws ever since.
