it's pop culture
literature is a real art
do you agree

I don't know. For example, I found Cliffhanger's treatise on the Foucaultian discourse of social control quite intruiging.

Some people are trying to put an intellectual spin on watching movies.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Of course, Avatar uses an ecological message to make billions of dollars which is genius because usually, ecology is poison for the box office since people hate being beaten over their heads how everything is polluted, but Cameron has found the way.

The Director's cut had an extended sex scene and did quite well (have not seen it) in sales, and so, Cameron played that card well, also.

avatar’s is not a genuine ecological message,   it is crass exploitation of echo-mysticism, and eco-mysticism undermines the underlying rationale for ecological stewardship.

What matters is the piece itself, not the medium. A free mind can enjoy anything and has the sense to appreciate what is good by it’s own merits.

never snobbish posing by putting down others with elitism.    elitism is merely not giving credit where credit is not genuinely deserved.

Visual art predates literature so far back into our species' past that we probably continued to develop it from our previous hominid ancestors.

Simply put, we've been creating in the visual medium far longer than the written or, perhaps, even the spoken form of explresion.

Just a fyi, the new Avatar is 48 frames per second (48 fps). It's well over 3 hours. The director, James Cameron, is on the record as saying that you are free to go to the bathroom at any time during the movie, and that you can see the missed scenes when you watch the movie a second time.
