Why do you think killers use a gun rather then something else? After all if all those other methods were as effective why choose a gun ? hell why aren't military's equipping hammers as the main weapon for soldiers......I think we all know why

Why focus only on gun violence? What makes you think that some murderers don't respond to gun control by using other weapons?
Some murderers don't use guns because they use knives or strangulation. Serial killers seem to prefer being up close and personal in their approach, it's part of what they are looking for...the control over a person is done too fast with a well-placed bullet. It's not that they give a good god damn about gun control one way or another.
There is a difference in numbers with a murderer and a mass killer who mows down the congregants in a church or attendees at a concert.

To date the highest casualty mass stabbing was in Kunming in 2014 which killed 31 and wounded 141 people and that still took 9 people in a crowded railroad station to pull off. While the deadliest mass shooting was the Las Vegas Strip Massacre in 2017 which killed 58 and wounded 546 and that was carried out by one person.I think the contrast between guns and other weapons is stark.

It seems like better mental health services might go some way towards dealing with both the suicide by gun problem and the serial killer problem in a way that guns have never managed. Why is it always funhouse mirror shit with guns?

While mass shootings are tragic, they are very rare. People died in mass shootings represent a tiny fraction (I believe around 2%) of all gun deaths. Even if we take for granted that gun control reduces mass shootings (which is in no way obvious, as Norway and Macedonia have more mass shootings per capita than the US in spite of having much stricter gun laws), it in no way follows that it will do something about the vast majority of gun deaths. For the vast majority of gun deaths, other weapons would be about as effective as guns are.
