Hi Boru,
The Bible story is full of human flaws, but not divine flaws. Jesus tells us to “be perfect like God”. It’s a big call. But striving to achieve it is the only way to happiness.
What an ignorant idiot. The children who were abused by your clergy would had FAR FAR happier lives without you church.
AND in fact, your Catechism makes allowances for anyone who honestly follows their conscience, and stay away from your organized cult.
There is no evidence that Catholics are any happier than Buddhists or anyone else. What do you take us for ? Sheeple ?
In fact, agnostic atheists, Chinese Tao mysticism, St. John of the Cross,(Dark Night of the Soul), St. Theresa of Avila, (the Interior Castle), the English Medieval mystic (the Cloud of Unknowing),
and Medieval and modern Benedictine/Cistercian (infused contemplation, see Thomas Merton) ALL end up practically, in the very same place. Some day, you should study yourself some beligion.
Actually there are divine flaws, ... lots of them.
The god in the OT keeps making covenants that will last forever, then, oops they don't.
He creates beings that are flawed ... a perfect being should be able to get it right, doncha think.
The angels "fell", but nothing needed, they don't get redeemed. They go to hell.
Then the ancient angry deity needs to send his son to die, so he can feel better, despite being "merciful".
He creates a whole race, then is sorry he did it, and tries to drown all nis new pets.
The gods in the NT are supposed to answer prayers said in Jebus' name.
Never happens. Such a lame excuse for a religion.
You can't actually think that a Jesus (if there was one) would approve of the clergy parading around in high-priced red silk dresses,
and fish-lip hats, like the god Dagon wore, do you ?
(I do admit I have some red socks I got at the store in Rome where the cardinals buy their dresses). They're *fabulous*.
There's a reason why 10 % of Amerians are ex-Catholics.
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell

My body is in ketosis right now, I think. I would love some fried fish, skip the loaves.

I love it when the christers who visit here know less about their own religions than those who have none.
They assume the atheist forums are mission territory, like North Korea or some shit, and no one here came out of a religious background.

I believe in God but I don't give a shit about religion. Religion is an unnecessary middle man. I formulate my own ideas and theories.

you conveniently left out the bit about hell being “eternal separation from God” and ignored the apostrophes which show “eternal fire” is clearly a metaphor.
A metaphor that calls for real water.
Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

And again you miss the point. Not to worry - I’m here to help:
The Catholic Church practiced, condoned, and covered up the sexual abuse of children. In furtherance of this, they broke - institutionally - at least three commandments, dozens of other biblical structures, and who knows how many Church rules. It’s no good putting the blame on a few rogue priests, since the Church hierarchy was involved in the scandal root and branch.
And yet you have the bollocks to call this organization of kiddie fuckers ‘the one true church’, which I was taught in catechism class and Sunday school, means the Church was ‘ordained by God and sustained by the Holy Spirit’.
And yet you also claimed that the Church is for the good of mankind. This naturally leads to the question, ‘Why would God create an instrument of salvation that brutalizes children?’.
Laughable.
Boru
Hi Boru
Nice to hear from you again. Child abuse is prevalent in sporting institutions, schools, scouts, other religions, acting, but mostly carried out by family members and close family friends. Yes, I mentioned it has been happening in the Church and there have been scandalous coverups, it happens anywhere there are human beings. But that does not detract one bit from the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Church.
But God gave us free will. And that means we can defy God and sin. And deny God and pretend the world just happened one day.
God bless

Many people have believed in God and formulated their own ideas and theories. Child sacrifice and temple prostitution was rife in ancient times.
Jesus Christ came to help us work it all out. He might have some ideas that you can learn from.

I’ve answered that. See below. The whole world is Mission territory. The fact that many atheists come from a religious background is irrelevant.
