Smoking
RE: Smoking
I don't understand people's enjoyment of many things. I just assume people are different.

RE: Smoking
The facility where I work has the most smokers I have ever seen. I have not yet had the privilege of bringing them out, but I keep hearing how hectic it is to manage twenty-plus residents for smoke breaks throughout the day.

I usually smoke outdoors.  I wouldn't want my home to smell of stale smoke either.

Tbh I've never really understood so called 'recreational' or 'social' smokers... people who can literally go weeks at a time without it and only do it in certain, limited, situations, like going out to the pub or whatever.

This is me. I've always seen smoking as a binary. Perhaps because it's an addiction. I either smoke or I don't. There is no middle ground. It's also the biggest reason I won't have "just one," no matter how bad the desire. Just one leads to just one more, chasing that nicotine buzz until I'm hooked through the bag once again.

Yeah, the notion of "cutting down" was always a fool's errand for people like us wasn't it? But this is something different I think; some people really do just not feel the need for it except in very limited times/situations. The main reason it doesn't make sense to me is just that you need to have a certain amount of nicotine in your system to get the buzz in the first place, so if some people can literally have one smoke a month or whatever, I don't see how it could physically provide any satisfaction; you'd need to have a few just to get the effect, is what I'm saying.

Sounds like a full time job in itself Wink

That's not necessarily true. I was in the hospital once and wasn't allowed outside for a few weeks. When I finally was, I lit up. It floored me. I was dizzy and felt like throwing up.

Same here. If I had a smoke right now, I wouldn't be able to drive for probably fifteen/twenty minutes. Tolerance levels vary and, they'll change with exposure as well. Get me back to a pack-a-day and I'll be smoking while driving again.

I don't know... might not have been the nicotine though - personally I doubt it was; after 48 hours it's out of your system and the feeling is completely different. For instance could you imagine smoking some dry leaves or paper? that too would make you feel dizzy and feel like throwing up, and is in effect no different that what you are doing when you're having a cigarette, but somehow... when you're addicted... the nicotine disguises the sheer amount of smoke you're inhaling, which in any other situation would make you feel completely nauseous.

After 48 hours it's out of your system, but your tolerance for it hasn't changed. The longer you go without, the less tolerance you'll have.
