Just to clarify, the real question is this...

"Don't you all find it funny that a nonexistent being like God has a hold on so many people in this world, in a way like an authoritarian person?"

Keep in mind that as @arewethereyet said, God does not really exist. So basically, knowing that, I was more so talking about this as a metaphorical sense and asking more about a nonexistent being still getting a hold on real people being an odd thing, with the authoritarian comparisons being an attempt to reinforce that. This is especially in regards to Christianity God, by the way.

I do not believe in God, and I am sure many others here do not either, but I saw some people posting about God and typing in the sense that he could or does exist. I do realize this may not be the case, at all, so as unnecessary as this may be, just wanted to clarify.

Hoomans are ignorant frightened little creatures, a loving, caring, super natural entity neutralizes all those big bad scarys, and makes everything worthwhile.

I keep see people tolerating logical leaps. It's not helping.

Nah, his flood just killed all the Polynesians because they didn't worship him. There were a few other peoples who had never heard of the goat herders' god that got genocided for the same reason. Everybody outside the Middle East at a rough estimate.

There's nothing "subtle" about the biblical god's authoritarianism, nor his followers' thirst to be ordered about.

Yeah, I was saying "subtle" just to be safe. In other words, I was starting off with a "minimum" just to make sure, while knowing it could be higher than that.
