Laptop usb joysticks do they work on 80s games?

Laptop usb joysticks do they work on 80s games?
Here is the deal. For months I have been Jonesing to play the 80s arcade version of Berzerk and Galaga, but I have been looking into consoles and cartridges and tv compatibility, and if I can get one game I cannot get it with this or that, and with SD cards even that is a pain in the ass to transfer it to a console. Trust me I have been doing my research for almost 3 weeks now. But I could save a shitload of money if I can buy a USB joystick and get it to work with the free online versions.

Admittedly a 90s and not an 80s game, but my Logitech USB stick works fine with Red Baron II 3D on Steam, down to the additional buttons accepting assignable functions. It also worked fine with the original 90s CD-ROM version I had before it (CD, not the joystick) went bad. The Logitech 'stick is good.

IIRC Berserk was a two-stick game, one to aim and shoot, the other to move. Does the conversion software accommodate this?

Boda, Jackalope, and a few others are gamers and computer gurus, as are others here. You may get an answer from one of them.

Wish I could help, but I’m not a gamer. Good luck, anyway.

PS - There may be an adapter that will go from USB to the older joysticks.

What kind of system are you eyeing that wouldn't work with modern interface devices?
An actual vintage console? One that requires a CRT?

What's wrong with emulation?
I hooked up a raspberry pi 4 with RetroPie and it has a few "filters" that even emulate the CRT look and feel on these new LCD type of displays. I got some cheap ish genuine second hand xbox360 controllers off eBay and a usb adapter from AliExpress for the wireless bit and they work fine.
It plays great and I can always add more games via WiFi.
Also, emulators allow save state which makes getting through games a bit easier and faster.

I want to be clear, I don't need to download anything or play it on a CD rom. The games are at websites and you play them on the website while you are on the websites. But every website only gives you instructions with the keyboard, it doesn't tell you if  you can use a usb joystick.

Like here.....

https://www.free80sarcade.com/galaga.php

or

https://www.classicgamesarcade.com/game/...ogger.html

Again, all I want to know is if a USB joystick will bypass their keyboard instructions so I can use the joystick while playing online?

Yeah, and archive.org offers playing games on their site.

When it comes to joysticks, I think it depends on what kind of joystick you have. If you have an expensive one then the computer will recognize it and it will know what to do, but if you have some cheap joystick there are programs in which you can map keyboard keys to correspond to your joystick movements.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Buy an arcade emulator stick that passes keystrokes from the controller. They're not even very expensive and will work for any game that uses keyboard controls.
