Elon Musk
RE: Elon Musk
Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with him ruthlessly firing thousands of people, cancelling government programs, and embracing Nazism, but it's somehow Ukraine's fault.

I remember reading on Wikipedia a long time ago how kids in school once threw Elon Musk down the stairs, and I thought "Wow, how can someone be so brutal?" but the more I know about Musk it kind of makes sense.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Add Australia to the list of countries where Tesla sales are sliding

Elon Musk's automaker sold 1,592 vehicles in Australia last month, down from 5,665 in February 2024 — a 71% decline, per figures from the Electric Vehicle Council.

The decline for Tesla comes amid vandalism aimed at Musk. A Tesla store in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, was vandalized with graffiti including "Down with DOGE," news.com.au reported this week.

Australia joins a number of European countries reporting declines in Tesla sales. Tesla's February total in Germany fell 76% year-on-year, despite overall EV sales rising about 31%. Tesla sales in the country also fell in January amid Musk's endorsement of the far-right AfD party.

Tesla sales declined more than 40% year-on-year in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden last month, with a 26% slide in France.

Sales of Teslas manufactured in China fell 49% year on year in February to their lowest number since August 2022. Tesla's Chinese rival BYD posted a 90% increase the same month.

British Columbia ends subsidies for Tesla products amid trade war

The move, according to BC Hydro’s website, is being made “to preference Canadian goods in our rebate programs going forward and to exclude, where practicable, U.S. produced goods.”

The exclusion explicitly targets billionaire Elon Musk’s company amid a trade war instigated by U.S. President Donald Trump. Musk – a close Trump ally who has been appointed as a special government employee – has used his social media platform to make statements disparaging outgoing prime minister Justin Trudeau and to say “Canada is not a real country.”

Tesla is done in Germany: 94% say they won’t buy a Tesla car

A survey of over 100,000 Germans revealed that 94% won’t buy a Tesla vehicle. It doesn’t bode well for the automaker, whose sales had already been falling off a cliff in the important European market.

Yup. Gotta love it when bad things happen to bad people.

Who would have thought that Germans would be put off a guy throwing around Nazi salutes.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first. But I'm not sure they'll crawl back on their own motivation. They may need a little help.

Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True.

As the world’s richest men slash American aid for the world’s poorest children, they insist that all is well. “No one has died as a result of a brief pause to do a sanity check on foreign aid funding,” Elon Musk said. “No one.”

That is not true. In South Sudan, one of the world’s poorest countries, the efforts by Musk and President Trump are already leading children to die.

Peter Donde was a 10-year-old infected with H.I.V. from his mother during childbirth. But American aid kept Peter strong even as his parents died from AIDS. A program started by President George W. Bush called PEPFAR saved 26 million lives from AIDS, and one was Peter’s.

Without the help of the community health worker, Peter was unable to get his medicines, so he became sick and died in late February, according to Moses Okeny Labani, a health outreach worker who helped manage care for Peter and 144 other vulnerable children.

The cost of first-line H.I.V. medications to keep a person alive is less than 12 cents a day.

Another household kept alive by American aid was that of Jennifer Inyaa, a 35-year-old single mom, and her 5-year-old son, Evan Anzoo, both of them H.I.V.-positive. Last month, after the aid shutdown, Inyaa became sick and died, and a week later Evan died as well, according to David Iraa Simon, a community health worker who assisted them. Decisions by billionaires in Washington quickly cost the lives of a mother and her son.

“Many more children will die in the coming weeks,” said Margret Amjuma, a health worker who confirmed the deaths of Peter and Achol.

While some are already dying because of the decisions in Washington, the toll is likely to soar in the coming months as stockpiles of medicines and food are drawn down and as people become weaker and sicker.

Sales Aren't The Only Things Falling Off At Tesla

Quote:lon Musk’s Tesla has been forced to halt sales of its electric Cybertryck pickup amid mounting concern about metal panels falling off the supposedly indestructible vehicles.

Customers posting on the Cybertruck Owners Club website – as well as on Mr. Musk’s own X, formerly Twitter – said they had been told by agents that deliveries were on hold.

Electric vehicle-enthusiast website Electrek said the decision was taken amid increasing instances of trim and panels “flying off the supposedly ‘bulletproof’ electric truck.”

US$100K for a pickup that isn't really a pickup, is hideously ugly, is prone to catching fire, and now can't be delivered because the company can't get the bits to stop falling off.

I will sleep well this night.
