A frustrating thing is happening: I’ve mentioned my issues with wakefulness and how I get some relief with Modafinil. So, here’s the thing. The doctor who prescribed it originally retired a few months ago. I thought that Dad had written to my GP to see if he can pick up the prescriptions. Dad thought that I had done so. So, I’m down to only a week’s worth of supply. Alas, the GP can/will only prescribe it after a full physical. And he doesn’t have any openings until late July. I hope to Hell we can get something settled in the week before I run out.

I really don’t want to end up doing this (and likely fall asleep in the process):

Debating taking some time off work to go to Africa.

I've been invited.

If I go and end up melting, it was my own choice.

Some prehistoric butterfly got saved from certain death somewhere because the doctor suddenly got an opening next Thursday at 8 AM. While it is technically the ass crack of dawn for me, at least I’m not going to wait two months for a scrip anymore. Granted, it’s not enough that I won’t need to ration my remaining Modafinil supply, but at least I’m getting somewhere soon.

A bit over a week ago, I rewatched Novum’s 10+hour guide to Beau is Afraid, and one little bit around 4 1/4 hours in struck me.





So, I decided to remake the sign from scratch on my iPad 



Naturally, if you look closely, you can tell that it’s pretty low quality, because I’m relying on free internet photo editing sites, the image edit tool in the photos app (and probably only used that for the line on the bottom), and a free font test site for the text (because I don’t know how to install Gloucester Bold Extra Condensed on the iPad.)

But that didn’t stop me from commissioning a custom metal sign from AliExpress. It came today.



Since taking this picture, I have signed it and attached it to my bedroom door.

Which part of Africa? I can personally recommend Kenya and Tanzania. Beautiful places, friendly people, and no language issues - it’s actually hard to find anyone who doesn’t speak English.

Resynching the backups of a pair of 4 TB hard disks so that I can repurpose the original two disks. I learned my computer bundle that I bought has a 15 day return window, not 30. Not that it matters as returning things is highly unlikely.

Go. I went to Tanzania a couple of decades back and would love to go back. It's very different.

Waiting for the rest of my Friday night TTRPG group to assemble.

Finishing up work on the new NAS for today.

One of the disks in the new NAS wasn't being detected. So I started recording serial numbers in preparation to go through the disks one by one to see which one was missing. I went to pull the cables on the first cluster of disks when I realized the first data cable wasn't fully plugged in. Problem solved. I still need to go through by serial number so that I have a record of which drive is in which bay. That way when a failure occurs I won't have to play detective on a working system to find which disk needs replacing. Tomorrow I turn to the exciting task of finding out why the installed system disk didn't fire when I swapped the cables from the Windows SSD to the TrueNAS SSD.
