Did we really land on the moon in '69?
July 14, 2009 at 6:33 pm
The celebration of the famous moon landing 40 years ago is fast approaching.
I am old enough to remember it!
I remember sitting up all night, in front of a black and white tv, waiting and waiting for man to step on the moon. ( my parents were not that impressed and went to bed as normal ).
I waited, watched and that was it....I can't say much more.
40 years later though, I wonder.
As conspiracy theories go, I find the one about the moon landing pretty interesting.
My conclusion is a painful one...I'm on the famous fence!
I can equally accept it did or did not actually happen.
What say others?

I think the evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the idea that Niel Armstrong strolled around up there in 1969.

A resounding yes. What evidence have you seen that makes you think otherwise?
You'd probably be interested in the Myth Busters episode on moon hoaxes, where they tear apart a load of popular conspiracy theories. Just do a search for "Myth Busters moon" on YouTube and you'll find plenty.

We landed on Mars and pretended it was the moon.

Like I say, I swing both ways on this. What evidence you ask? Well not evidence more niggling doubt.
For example, given the timing, at the height of the cold war and with USA and USSR racing to be first on the moon, is it beyond the possible that the Americains could have staged it?
Just recently I read that there is more computer stuff in today's washing machines than was in the computers controlling the moon shot. Is it credible that such basic computer power was sufficient?
In the same programme it was admitted that as the eagle was landing, a malfunction led the astronauts to believe the eagle was travelling well faster than their speedo was indicating, yet they still managed to land softly, on suitable ground, in the moon landscape!
Niggling doubts.

Hey,
America says they want to go back to the moon. Well, they can't really decide, I think recently they scrapped the idea. The costs and difficulties were far too much. I wonder what the says about the cost and difficulty of a similar operation 40 years ago.
I don't give the American federal government very much room at all for doubt. I have seen some very, very large scale lies and assume that it is possible to fake a moon landing. But it is hard to come all the way out and say 'it must be a hoax', because there isn't too much solid evidence there either. The effects of the Van Allen Radiation belt is an interesting point, as are a few others.
I lean slightly towards 'it didn't happen', but I don't worry about it too much. That is just what I think, and I might be wrong.
Thank you,

That's not fair. Why would he be gullible to believe something different that yourself. Man you have a big problem with people who aren't exactly like you. They are all stupid, demented...
And I have a problem with calling you on it.
I will try to stop, in the name of self-improvement. Meet me half way?
