I see your point, and I whole-heartedly agree with it, however the example isn't exactly applicable, as your disposition towards incest is likely never to change, whereas I imagine that when you are the one who is 70, you will have an entirely new outlook on old age sex. Wink

This is most true, however when the majority of a population deems something unacceptable that is what it becomes, unfair as that is...

Hello Arjun,

You are confusing 2 issues here:
Whether or not incest is genetically favorable, or whether or not incest is morally justified. In the case of the first, it is not, in the case of the second that depends on several factors, but most importantly the willingness of the participants.

If you want to reason out if 2 family members have sex is morally justified, ask your self 2 things:

1: Is it harmful to anyone else but these two family members?
2: Are these two family members doing this willingly and without coercion?

If the answer to 1 is no, and the answer to 2 is yes, then without letting your personal feelings getting in the way there is no valid reason to deny that there is no moral basis to condemn their activities. Just because you don't like the idea doesn't mean it is morally wrong.

you know what mother means to a child ?
i am stunned to read your comments.
My mother doesn't interest me sexually and I'm pretty sure the feeling is mutual. Why do you think it's wrong? Would you seek to prevent a relationship that's harming no one?

An argument from emotion is no valid justification.

Again a misrepresentation. What is morally right or wrong has no bearing on your emotional attachment over the issue. If you don't understand that than that is your problem.

I think you misunderstand. When justifying what is moral, not taking into account your emotional standpoint does not mean that you don't have, or refuse to entertain emotions. It means you're making a decision from a non-subjective standpoint that would be applicable to everyone, despite certain individuals disposition toward an idea.

but i want to know what is moral code for an atheist. so far it has been said that if an act which does not harm others should not be condemned on the on the account of some emotional tilt.
now i ask can i eat the meat of my dead ones ? no harm for other is involved here.

Although I have my suspicions.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
